Mateo’s dedication to development dates back to high school. According to him, initially the web seemed like a scary place of protocols and layers and unnecessary acronyms. It wasn’t until he tried it for himself that he realized how much fun it was. The rest, as they say, is history. Mateo formed an LLC (to seem more legit), scored a few small projects that led to bigger projects, and eventually left his job as a waiter to make websites instead. In the process he also discovered how much work went into talking about the site in relation to making it.
As soon as Mateo got to Virginia Tech, he immediately looked for the first place that would let him make their site, landing him at a 6-person startup and Tech’s business school. After finishing the latter project, he stuck with the startup scene for the next couple years, always trying to make sure he was never the best developer in the room, and eventually finding a place at NewCity.
In his free time, you can find Mateo playing his acoustic guitar Tinny, taking a nap with his bearded dragon Poe (short for Pogona), or working on a DIY project with his awesome wife Courtney.
